BASKETBALL THOUGHTS FROM COACH AURIEMMA

My dear friend and Lipscomb head coach Greg Brown shared with me some notes he took in regard to Geno Auriemma after working UConn's camp in 2006.  Here are few of the thoughts he came away with:

• Geno does all the team stuff in practice.

• He only stops practice.

• Assistants do skill work.

• Geno sees big picture, doesn’t worry about details.

• He’s the only voice.
• Geno is more concerned with opponent’s philosophy of how they’ll score and who will do most of the scoring. Not too many details.

• Can’t be afraid to take chances. What’s the worst thing that can happen.

• He’s always meeting and talking with the team. Kids are always in the office. Sports psych.

• They work hard with perimeters attacking and pulling back for separation for 2’s and 3’s.

• They find out why a player hasn’t been in the office, if they’re not there every day or 2.

• Get your best player the ball where they can score...Find their comfort zone, where they can score from. Then, help them get to that spot to score.
