JOE GIRARDI AND THE INFLUENCE OF A UNIFORM NUMBER

The following comes from Joe Girardi in a foreword he wrote for "The Difference You Make" by Pat Williams:

Leadership is about influence. During my playing days, I wore number 25 on my jersey.  When I took the job as manager of the New York Yankees, I wore number 27.  Why? Influence.  The Yankees had won twenty-six World Series titles, and I wanted to wear a visible reminder of our goal, a twenty-seventh championships.

Two years after I took the job, we reached that goal.  So now of course, I wear number 28.  It's about motivation.  It's about focus.  It's about keeping the vision always before our eyes as a team.  And it's about influence.
