In the book “The 4 Disciplines of Execution” written by Chris McChesney, Sean Covey and Jim Huling, the subject of identifying your WIG is incredibly important. A WIG is a Wildly Important Goal. It is referred to in this manner because it is a goal that can make all the difference. On the topic, the authors talk about the fact that often it is obvious what your organization WIG needs to be – but there are many times when it is not as obvious and it becomes important to explore it at depth.
I love how the book frames the question that needs to be asked:
In determining your wildly important goal, don’t ask “What’s most important?” Instead, begin by asking “If every other area of our operation remained at its current level of performance, what is the one area where change would have the greatest impact?”
