I'm a big believe in there is a specific way to coach special players.  Chuck Daly got that and mastered not just his NBA teams but the Dream Team as well.  Here is a great look into his thought process in this regard from the book "Chuck Daly Coaching" by my friend Brendan Suhr:

“Coaching is like flying an airplane. There’s going to be a lot of turbulence. Your job is to land the plane safely...Some nights, you got to lose with your star player. You don’t always win with him. You got to lose with him. So if Isiah had lost the game for us tonight, that’s okay because he has won me a lot of games. So I’m going to stay loyal to him even if he’s having a rough night.”
