CLAIR BEE'S TEACHING PRINCIPLES

The following comes from "The Science of Coaching" written by Clair Bee in 1942. Not much has changed!

"In no other profession does the character and personality of a director play a more vital role in the development of young men than in the coaching of athletics. The athlete looks to his coach for guidance in most of his "young life" problems. The coach must be prepared to meet him with a spirit of understanding and helpfulness. The respect of his players is invaluable. In their play of the game his spirit will be exemplified."

"Good coaching may be defined as the developing of character, personality and habits of players, plus the efficient teaching of fundamentals and team play. The development of harmonious teamwork, a spirit of fair play, and an aggressive spirit are just as much a part of the definition of good coaching as an undefeated season. To play to win, to observe the rules, and to act like gentlemen are other factors."
