THE WISDOM OF PHIL JACKSON

"Phil: The Words & Wisdom of Phil Jackson," is certainly a different kind of book. Not autobiographical in nature but certainly revealing into how Phil Jackson sees the game. It is a small paperback book that is a compilation of quotes by Phil Jackson during his tenure with the Chicago Bulls.

The quotes are done in a timeline which helps you to see how he evolved as the coach of the Bulls, and more importantly the process he used to shape the team and its superstars.

David Whitaker compiled the various quotations and we have listed some of our favorites below:

“Vested authority. If you can’t win the approval of your players, you lose your job. I think the less you control them, the more innovative they can be.”

Village Voice (April 26, 1994)

“For me, the fact that your game plan and strategies worked out — that’s incidental. For me the satisfaction is that 12 guys have listened and absorbed, and found a way to band together to win.”
-Phil Jackson-

New York Times Magazine (May 17, 1992)

“Whether on the court or off, what I call for in my people is full awareness and attention. That’s really what Zen is all about — waking up and being mindful.”
-Phil Jackson-

Fortune (December 25, 1995)

“I hate to schedule a practice in Washington, D.C. I’d rather take them to visit congress.”

US News and World Report (May 11, 1992)
