J.D. BARNETT'S CONTEST-A-SHOT REBOUNDING DRILL
"Rebounding is a relatively easy thing to talk about. In 14 years of coaching, I have never had a team outrebounded. Rebounding is a state of mind. You can do all the drills you want, you can talk about all the things you want to talk about, but here's what we do in rebounding. Every drill we do finishes in a made basket or a live rebound. We have a contest-a-shot drill, 4 offense, 3 defense. You must stop them three consecutive times. If the open man gets the rebound, it doesn't count. The offense cannot dribble. We are working on shot contesting, closeouts and rebounding. The shot goes up, contest the shot, block out. Our defense is perfect for rebounding because we are always inside the offensive man. That's 90% of rebounding. The other 10% is figuring out what is going to happen on the backside because that's where the rebounds are coming."
