RANDOM THOUGHTS FROM COACH DON MEYER

Some of my favorite thoughts from one of my favorite mentors! In fact, we are working to put together a Coach Meyer Coaching Academy at LSU this spring. Certainly I will get details to all as soon as we finalize dates.

Teammates should stand up and take the blame. Always hold your players accountable for their actions.

When the pupil is ready, the teacher will appear!

When needs are met, motivation ends.

Make it a point to practice as if you lost your last game.

How to BUILD YOUR OWN ARMY = Keep a Low Profile + Build Trust and Loyalty by the way you treat your players. Remember, you cannot buy trust. It is like friendship, you must EARN IT by DEMONSTRATION.

Who is helping you when you are away? You can only get kids in recruiting when someone else helps because you cannot be everywhere.

Spend some informal time with your players.

There are ways to plant messages without saying a word. There are time when you should be subtle.

“Definition of Confrontation = Meeting the Truth head on.” (Coach K)

Discipline always proceeds moral. If there is no discipline, there is no morale. Discipline is first with the troops.

Communicate- Use echo yells in practice.

Winning is a by-product. Process over product every time.

Pressure is good, stress is bad.
