30 DAYS TO CHAMPIONSHIP: THOUGHTS ON A RECRUITING PHILOSOPHY

Coach Jim Boone:  First, yesterday was an amazing day!  Travelling at mach speed through the campus I was so impressed with the people at West Virginia Wesleyan.  They have captured the commitment, vision and attention to detail of a major college campus with the family environment of a smaller campus.  It is the perfect blend to attract talented student-athletes.

While on the subject of recruiting, one thing that is critically important to understand that is on the collegiate level recruiting is a 24-hour a day, 7 day a week process.  All your thoughts should have a recruiting component to it.  Everything from how I will decorate my office to the system of play of our team will be with the thought of making young men excited about wanting to be a part of us!

As I met everyone yesterday, the prevalent thought I had was that these are the type of administrators that I want on our team.  They all want what is best for the student-athlete --- they get it!!!

As we start another full day, here are some of my thoughts on recruiting:

RECRUITING: KEY RESULT AREA

1. Character Comes First: We will recruit young men with the highest degree of character. We expect our student-athletes to be the absolute role models of our college and community.

2. Academics: We will recruit young men who are earnest in their desire to achieve a degree - we are; Building Champions for Life !

3. Leaders and Competitors: We search for attributes such as, Toughness and a strong Work Ethic in our prospects, student-athletes with a “HAVE TOO” mentality.

4. Build Primarily with High School Student-Athletes: Young men that our College campus along with the community of Buckhannon, will identify with over a four to five year period.
